…Hey, why couldn’t they have just added Cass to the Outlaws? Fits pretty damn well to me. Starfire could’ve gotten her own book or a team book that fits her better honestly. I mean, she’s such a sweetheart. A warrior of course, but she’s not exactly “damaged” the way Roy and Jason are. They could even find Cass on the job and be all like ”Oh, Jay, honey can we keep her?”
Back on topic though, maybe I’ll write a ficlet about this AU. My brain just isn’t working for any other stuff I’m supposed to be writing.

That was my thought too. And I agree on Kory not being as damaged as Jason or Roy.  As you said, she unlike the others, took her pain in stride and didn’t let it change her.  The others, not so much.  It affected them all deeply (though now I wonder about Roy, since majority of his past is being erased…).
I mean Cass was “damaged” considering her past and what Beechen had done to her.  I was never satisfied with how they resolved all that.  Having her suddenly appear as Batgirl and working under Bruce and then followed by her atrocious mini, all made no fucking sense whatsoever.  We never saw her reunion with Bruce.  How the hell did all that come about. Did she seek him out? Or did he seek her out?  I know Dixon had something planned, but alas, all that was axed when he left.  So it’s like we skipped over a huge wound in Cass’s life.
What was it like for her to come back from wandering to see that Bludhaven (where she made friends) got destroyed? And then to come to Gotham City and find that Bruce left on a journey with just the boys, leaving her behind and Gotham City in Two-face’s hands? Ouch. And then to be caught & drugged/brainwashed by Deathstroke who helped destroy Bludhaven.  To wake up from that nightmare and realize she’d been made to break her no-killing vow over and over again. To realize that she been used to become the very thing she wanted to avoid (cuz she was created for it apparently), a leader in the league of assassins. To realize that those she trusted with her life thought the worst of her, and did almost nothing to bring her back, not even to stop her murderous rampage.
Geez, how does this girl not have issues?  Her reunion with Bruce must’ve been something else.
The Cass I read in her series would’ve crumbled in despair and shame in the beginning at least. Not wake up and want to kill someone else, no matter how deserving he was of it. The only way that makes sense is if she still had some drugs in her system (which later I think they said she might have).  Whatever. Cass was proud of her accomplishments but very ashamed of her past mistakes. To be forced to make them again, would’ve been horrible for her.  The one time she almost killed someone by accident, she came to Steph a major crying mess, begging her to help her save him  (Steph luckily knew CPR and was able to revive the guy, thus starting her friendship with Cass).  The Cass of her old series would’ve been utterly horrified and traumatized to learn of all the death she caused. But DC’s treating it like it was just a drunken phase she went through.
And then we’re led to believe that Cass conspires to kill David Cain and Deathstroke?  Uh what? God, Beechen didn’t get her character whatsoever!
Cass was honorable and hated killing. She had also given up being Batgirl, because she understood she had grown past it, past being under Bruce’s orders and symbol. One could say she gave it up after “killing” Shiva. Under those circumstances, why the hell would she take up the mantle again to be under Bruce again?  and then join the Outsiders and act the way she did from the start, beating up and throwing a future teammate through a window? Makes no fucking sense, character wise.
The only thing that made sense was when Cass gave up the mantle again after Bruce “died” and left it to Stephanie.  But her reason came out weak.  Only way it works is if she didn’t want to be Batgirl, but was convinced by Bruce to take it up at least temporarily until she came up with something else. Now when Bruce “died” she no longer felt obligated to wear his symbol…and went off to do her own thing, since she had faith in Steph to take her place as Batgirl.
Basically if there’s anyone who would be on a journey to find themselves or a better understanding of the world, it would’ve been Cass.
Granted, too late for that now. She did find something to do with herself and that was go to Hong Kong looking for another martial artist master *rolls eyes* and avoid family (that makes sense).  Whatever grievances or issues Cass might have had, have all been swept under the rug and she’s returned to work under Bruce again as the Black Bat. And may now be returning to Gotham City permanently.
Not complaining about her becoming BB, just wish there had been more to her journey.  I WANT SUBSTANCE DAMNIT!
